Xander at 16 Weeks

I find it hard to believe that Xander is 16 weeks old!  We've had so much fun over the last (almost) 4 months, and Xander has changed so much.  This week, Xander went to the last farmer's market of the season, saw his Mommy's work for the firs t time, has been rolling over, and now spends more time "talking" in his baby babble!  Oh yeah, and he's also starting to get his Daddy's brown eyes :)

Paul or Sarah?

Teaching genetics while being pregnant this past school year was interesting--we had lots of conversations that haven't come up in previous years.  My students seemed as curious as I was regarding my future baby's physical appearance, and we predicted many of his traits.  At this age, I find it difficult to look at Xander and try to decide if he looks more like one of us.  Xander has Paul's widow's peak hairline and "butt chin," his hair is the color of Paul's for now, and he will probably have Paul's brown eyes.  He has the same ear lobes (unattached) as I do, and the same blood type (O positive), but I'm not sure of any others yet.

I have taken a sudden interest in what Paul and I looked like as babies.  Here are some pictures:

Here is 5-week-old Paul:

First Doctor Visit

Xander had his first adventure at the doctor's office this morning. We took him in to be weighed and were sent off to the childrens' hospital to get some lab work done. Xander has just a touch of the jaundice so they had to take some blood. They poked him in three places! He took it like a champ and has a nice purple armband to show for his efforts. We found out from the results that his blood type is O+ just like his mom. We have to go back tomorrow morning for some more blood letting to check if he is progressing in the right direction. If not, he will prolly have to lay around under some cool blankets that bathe him in some good light and help clear up his yellowishness. Other than that, Xander is eating well and sleeping a few hours at a time. Both of us parents are sleepy, though we have not progressed to zombie status.

Paul out!
